Attic Insulation Contractors
As an attic insulation contractor, we are your partner in saving you money. Attics are often one of the easiest places in a house to insulate. Yet in many homes, up to 40% of their heating and cooling is escaping through an improperly protected attic roof. That’s wasted money.

Top five reasons we recommend loose-fill insulation
- It is ideal for unfinished attic floors.
- It can be “blown” into hard to reach places and around obstructions.
- When installed properly, loose-fill insulation provides better coverage.
- Loose-fill is usually less expensive for an attic insulation contractor to install than bat, which is material that is unrolled.
- Loose fill is also referred to as “blown” insulation, because we use special “blowing” equipment to distribute the “fill”.
Before adding loose fill, an attic insulation contractor seals air leaks so that you get the full benefit from your insulation. Most attics have air leaks in several common areas:
- Around the chimney as it passes through the attic and out the roof. This includes the metal chimneys in more recent homes.
- Tops of interior walls leak, usually because walls are built first and then the ceiling is added. They need caulking.
- Anywhere electrical wires run into the attic.
- A source of major air leaks is the vent stack – which is plumbing.
- An attic insulation contractor will not ignore the attic entryway. Adequate weather stripping can do the trick.
We may discover roof leaks in the course of sealing air leaks in an attic, and as a roofing contractor we are experienced in roof leak repair. You may wish to have a home energy audit to identify how much you are using, and how much additional attic insulation will reduce energy use.
Our free estimate will determine what type of insulation you have, and how much of it, as we calculate how much to add and in what thickness (in inches).
What R-Value do you need?
R-value simply means resistance to heat flow. The United States Department of Energy (DOE) has made determining R-value easy for homeowners and an attic insulation contractor. DOE has established six different “zones”. In the St Louis area zone, an R-value of at least 49 is advised to achieve maximum energy efficiency. (For example, R-38 is for warmer climates).
Payback on attic installation
It’s a fact that the utility cost savings from proper insulation will “pay you back” over the course of years. The DOE formula for determining this is anything but easy. As a rough example, increasing an R-value of 19 to R-30, in a home with a fairly efficient gas furnace, the “years to payback” of that additional insulation is 5.62 – less than 6 years to pay for itself!
Top five reasons we recommend fiberglass
- Fiber glass insulation can be blown in an attic to nearly any R-value
- Fiber glass is naturally non-combustible because it is made from sand and recycled glass.
- An attic insulation contractor knows it is important that insulation does not deteriorate, or settle, over time. Fiber glass loose-fill may settle slightly (1-3%) but that has no impact on the performance.
- Fiber glass insulation is not absorbent. If exposed to moisture, it will dry and retain its original R-value.
- Fiber glass is environmentally friendly. Its core material-- sand is classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a "rapidly renewable resource."
