If you were home during the storm, and remember the direction the storm blew, that’s the side of your roof to look at first. You can do this from the ground with binoculars. Don’t go on the roof; you could do more damage. But you can look from the top of a ladder.

Look for scars, breaks or cracks. Can you see the substrate – the underside of the roofing system? Look for irregularly-shaped areas on the surface that look “scoured”; for instance granules can be roughed off of asphalt shingle.
